Alternative Indie Pop From British Columbia, Canada

Born in a bedroom in Mission, British Columbia, Western Jaguar is the ever-evolving musical endeavour of multi-instrumentalist, Jeffrey C. Trainor.

Taking influence from artists such as Death Cab For Cutie, Foals and The 1975, Western Jaguar’s sonic footprint casts a wide net, incorporating elements of indie rock, alternative pop, shoegaze and power pop within his signature sound. Heralded for his “signature, reverb heavy guitars, throbbing bass and high voltage percussion,” [Eclectic Music Lover, 2019] Western Jaguar’s sound has drawn comparison to artists such as Nada Surf, Band Of Horses, Night Travelers and Real Estate.

Western Jaguar won a 2019 Fraser Valley Music Award in the “Live Performer Of The Year” category and has been nominated on five other occasions in Rock and Adult Alternative categories. Western Jaguar has built a reputation as an authentic live performer and has shown that Western Jaguar excels far beyond just the recorded medium. Western Jaguar has performed over 85 times throughout Western Canada in the projects history.

Western Jaguar has released five albums over the course of his existence, with a sixth, “Vacationland” on the way in September 2024. “Vacationland” will be Western Jaguar‘s first release with Starttrack, a cassette label based in Bratislava, Slovakia. Western Jaguar‘s most recent singles, Baby Come Back and The Brightest Ray Of Darkness, have gained acclaim from various places and platforms. The Brightest Ray Of Darkness “just has something so catchy about it” [Rock Fueguino, 2024], while Baby Come Back has been called “a resonant and unforgettable piece in Western Jaguar’s discography,” that features, “crisp and precise guitar lines [and] bright glockenspiel leads that add a touch of whimsy and hope amidst the heartache.” [Fusionostalgia, 2024]. Furthermore, Western Jaguar‘s 2023 album, Oblivion, was ranked as the 76th best record of 2023 by Gannon Hanevold [Gannon Hanevold, 2023] and the album’s third single, Darling, reached #1 in the EclecticMusicLover Top 30 charts.[Eclectic Music Lover, 2023]
